Involute spur gear generator
Real involute teeth (20° pressure angle) generated from the base circle, with printing backlash built in. Set the module and tooth count, and the log reports the pitch diameter and centre distance for any mating gear.

How to make it
- Pick a module (1–2 mm prints well).
- Set teeth; keep ≥ 17 to avoid undercut.
- Add 0.1–0.2 mm backlash for FDM.
- Use centre distance = module × (z1 + z2) / 2.
Print tips
- Print flat, 4 walls; PETG or nylon for load.
- A drop of dry PTFE lubricant helps a lot.
FAQ
Which module should I use?
For small mechanisms 1–1.5 mm; for torque 2–3 mm. Both gears in a pair must share the same module.
