Display case with bezel for CYD, Pi Touch Display 2, e-paper
Gives a small screen a proper home on your desk instead of dangling by its wires. The dark bezel frames the glass, a lip at the front holds the case at a slight tilt, and a gap on the edge lets the cable out. Enter your panel's size to fit your own display.
3 parts · 79 g · 100 × 89 × 79 mm
Ask for the sizes you want to tweak, e.g. “make the width adjustable”.
How to print it
Parts
- bezel · PLA · Front face down. The window bevel and the front chamfer print as 45° slopes; no supports.
Charcoal. 99.9 x 63.9 x 7.9 mm at the defaults; about 13 g and 22 min at 2 walls and 15% infill. The heat-set inserts go into the four corners from the seam face.
- back-shell · PLA · Back face down, open side up. The counterbores have 45° seats, so nothing bridges.
Accent colour. 99.9 x 63.9 x 11.2 mm at the defaults; about 19 g and 30 min at 2 walls and 15% infill. Its corner columns stop 0.35 mm short of the panel.
- stand · PLA · Upright, as shown. The ballast channels have 55° gable roofs; no supports.
Accent colour. 63.1 x 88.8 x 39.7 mm at the defaults; about 46 g and 68 min at 2 walls and 15% infill. Add a pause at 8.0 mm (at the defaults), pour in the steel BBs, then resume. Not printed with the wall-keyhole mount.
Print settings
- Layer height
- 0.2 mm
- Walls
- 2 (about 82 g and 2 h 4 min for all three parts at the defaults). With 3 walls for more grip round the inserts: about 107 g and 2 h 43 min.
- Infill
- 15%
- Supports
- None
- Notes
- Add a pause on the stand at the height given in its part note (8.0 mm at the defaults) and pour in the BBs. PLA is for indoor use; switch to PETG in sun or near heat. The defaults fit a 180 mm bed; the Pi Touch Display 2 and 7.5in e-paper presets need a 256 mm bed.
Hardware
- 4 × M3 heat-set insert (4.1 mm hole, 5.7 mm long) · Pressed into the bezel corners. With the M2 or M2.5 screw option, use the matching inserts.
- 4 × M3 x 10 mm socket head cap screw · Driven from the back down the 6.4 mm counterbores. M2 option: M2 x 6 mm. M2.5 option: M2.5 x 8 mm. The 'Screws bite the inserts' check lists the engagement for all three.
- Steel BBs (4.5 mm airgun BBs) or lead shot · Stand ballast, poured in at the print pause: about 89 g at the defaults (taken as 4.0 g/cm³ poured). The amount changes with the screen and tilt; the 'Takes a 2 N tap on the screen' check reports it,
- 4 × M2.5 heat-set inserts and M2.5 screws for the driver board · Waveshare 7.5in e-paper preset only: four 5 mm standoffs on a 58 x 23 mm hole pattern.
- 2 × Wall screw, 4 mm shank, head up to 8 mm · Wall keyhole option only.
Assembly
- Print the stand with a pause at the height in its part note. Pour steel BBs into the channels until they are level with the top of the straight walls, then resume so the roofs close over them.
- Press the four heat-set inserts into the bezel corners from the flat seam face with a soldering iron, flush with the face.
- Lay the bezel face down and drop the screen in from the back, display side down. The pocket has a 0.6 mm lead-in and 0.25 mm of clearance all round.
- E-paper preset: screw the driver board onto the four standoffs in the back shell first, then fold the flex tail behind the panel.
- Set the back shell on the bezel with its corner columns over the panel corners, and drive the four socket screws down the counterbores. The panel stays 0.35 mm free and is never clamped.
- Plug the USB lead in through the cable window. Set the cable window side and position before printing so it lines up with your board's port.
- Slide the case's bottom edge into the stand's channel from one side. For the wall option, hang the case on two screws through the keyholes instead.
Good to know
- Measure your screen first. The presets use published outlines and pixel-area sizes but assume the pixel area is centred on the panel. If yours is not, use the pixel-offset sliders (±4 mm sideways, ±2 mm up or down).
- The CYD default uses the 86 x 50 mm board outline and never uses the board's holes. The USB port position varies between revisions, so set the cable window before printing.
- The 2 N tap figure assumes the stand's channels are filled with steel BBs (taken as 4.0 g/cm³ poured). Without them the default stand holds about 1.4 N; lighter fillers give less. At other tilts and screens the stand's depth and ballast change; the 'Stands without tipping' and 'Takes a 2 N tap' chec
- The Pi Touch Display 2 preset makes room for the display and a cable window only. It has no port openings for a Pi mounted on the display's back.
- The e-paper preset assumes a 65 x 30.2 mm driver board on a 58 x 23 mm M2.5 hole pattern with parts up to 10 mm tall. Check yours before printing.
- The panel floats up to 0.35 mm by design so fragile glass is never squeezed. Add thin foam tape behind it if it rattles.
- The cable window is sized for a plug body up to 11 x 7 mm; widen it for bulkier plugs.
- Fit, tipping, tap force and screwdriver access are checked in the Loftsmith engine, not on a printed part. Print the bezel first and test-fit your screen.
