1.1 m longsword with a hidden steel core

A full-length longsword for costumes, stage shows and the shelf. A steel rod runs hidden through the blade, so it stands up straight instead of drooping. The blade has lettering down its length. Change the blade length or grip length to suit whoever's carrying it.

Notes
Blade sections upright with a 5 mm brim. A dark wash wiped into the engraving makes NEVER YIELD pop on silver PLA.

Hardware

  • 8 mm steel rod, about 1064 mm long (M8 threaded rod, or plain rod with at least 30 mm of M8 thread at one end) · Measure it and set the Steel rod diameter slider to match (7.6-8.2 mm).
  • M8 hex nut · Trapped in the pommel.
  • CA glue (optional) · A drop on each blade joint face makes it permanent.

Assembly

  1. Push the M8 nut into the pommel's hex pocket.
  2. Slide blade-1 onto the plain end of the rod until the rod reaches the blind end.
  3. Slide on blade-2 to blade-5 in order, lining up the two pins at each joint.
  4. Slide on the crossguard, grip-upper, then grip-lower.
  5. Screw the pommel on until the stack is snug by hand, then trim any rod past the nut.

Good to know

  • The blade is now 15.5 mm thick instead of 14.5 mm, and the lettering is 1.2 mm deep instead of 0.8 mm. These are the changes that cleared the warning.
  • The rod and pin fits are untested, so test-slide one section on your rod before printing the rest.
  • This is a display and cosplay prop, not a sparring sword. Keep it out of hot cars, since PLA softens around 55 °C.
