Pie slice guide ring for 180-330 mm dishes, 3 to 16 slices

Cuts a pie into even slices without the guesswork. The ring sits on the rim of your dish, and little notches around the top show where each knife cut goes. Change the dish size and the number of slices to match your pie.

Parts

  • arc-1 · PETG · Top face down, flat on the bed (set automatically)

Shorter end arc (64 degrees, 130 mm long). Its share of the 66 g / 1 h 56 min total, by arc length, is about 12 g and 21 min.

  • arc-2 · PETG · Top face down, flat on the bed

77 degree arc, 152 mm long. About 14 g and 25 min (same basis).

  • arc-3 · PETG · Top face down, flat on the bed

    77 degree arc, 152 mm long. About 14 g and 25 min.

  • arc-4 · PETG · Top face down, flat on the bed

    77 degree arc, 152 mm long. About 14 g and 25 min.

  • arc-5 · PETG · Top face down, flat on the bed

64 degree arc, 130 mm long. About 12 g and 21 min. The number and size of arcs follow the dish diameter, slice count and bed size sliders; on a 256 mm bed a 230 mm ring prints in one piece.

Notes
Defaults: about 66 g of PETG and 1 h 56 min for all five arcs at 2 walls and 15% infill (engine estimate). At 3 walls it is about 84 g and 2 h 30 min. The longest arc is 152 mm, so it fits a 180 mm bed. Use PETG because the ring sits on a dish that may still be warm, and PLA softens around 55 C.

Assembly

  1. Measure your dish across the outside of the rim and the width of its flat rim. Set Dish rim outer diameter, Dish rim width and Number of slices on the Adjust tab, and set Your bed size.
  2. Print every arc top face down. No supports are needed.
  3. Lay the arcs top side up and press each jigsaw key down into its socket, matching the engraved letters on the outside wall (A to A, B to B).
  4. Lower the ring onto the dish. The cone under the band centres it on the rim's outer edge.
  5. Put the knife in a tooth's slot, aim at the opposite slot (even counts) or the round sight hole (odd counts), and score toward the centre. Lift the ring off and finish the cuts along the score lines.

Good to know

  • The deck underside sits 15 mm above the rim at the defaults, and 10 mm on a rim 10 mm smaller than the set diameter. The Deck height slider sets 12 to 30 mm above a rim of the size you set, and the ring sits up to 5 mm lower on a smaller rim. The crust is not modelled, so raise Deck height if your c
  • The seat centres on rims from 10 mm smaller to 8 mm larger than the diameter you set, so measure across the outer edge of the rim, not the inside of the dish.
  • Let the pie cool until the dish is comfortable to touch. A dish straight from the oven is much hotter than PETG can take (it softens around 75 C).
  • Only for dishes with a plain round rim. Fluted or scalloped rims and rims with built-in handles will not seat. A crust that hangs over the very outer edge of the rim will sit under the seat.
  • The ring is held only by its own weight on the rim. Guide the knife through the slot rather than levering on the teeth.
  • Not certified food-safe. The ring is meant to touch only the dish and the knife. Wash it by hand.
  • The jigsaw keys have 0.25 mm clearance per side and have not been test-printed. Sand them lightly if they are tight.
