Slow feeder insert for dog bowls, sized to bowl and kibble
Slows down a dog who inhales dinner in three bites. The insert sits on the bowl floor with a ring of tapered posts, so the kibble has to be nosed out between them. Set your bowl's size and your dog's kibble and it fits.

How to print it
Parts
- slow-feeder insert · PETG · Flat on its floor, posts pointing up, as modelled. No supports; overhang 0% in the build report.
157 x 157 x 34 mm at default sliders, so it fits a 180 mm bed (Bambu A1 mini). The 'Fits the print bed' check reports the insert's width at whatever bowl size you set. Bigger bowls can push it past 180 mm, and it then needs a 256 mm bed such as the Bambu A1. PETG because it gets hand-washed in warm
Print settings
- Layer height
- 0.2 mm
- Walls
- 3 walls (1.2 mm) recommended for a washable surface; the page figure uses 2 walls
- Infill
- 15%
- Supports
- None
- Notes
- Build report at default sliders: about 59 g and 1 h 23 min at 2 walls/15% infill (the page's stats line), or about 83 g and 1 h 55 min at the recommended 3 walls/15%. Print in PETG on a textured or glue-coated plate so the floor releases cleanly.
Assembly
- Measure your bowl on the inside: diameter across the floor wall to wall, diameter at the rim, depth from floor to rim, and roughly how rounded the corner is where the floor meets the wall.
- Measure the largest piece of your dog's kibble and set the Kibble size slider to it.
- Set the four bowl sliders and the post height. On the Check tab, confirm 'Fits the print bed' shows a width your printer can take.
- Print flat in PETG with no supports.
- Wash it, drop it into the empty bowl so the rim sits against the bowl wall, then pour the kibble over the posts.
Good to know
- Not certified food-safe. FDM layer lines can trap residue, so hand-wash it and replace it if it gets scratched or chewed.
- Do not use it with a dog that chews plastic. A broken post is a choking and swallowing risk. Supervise the first meals.
- Nothing anchors it to the bowl. A determined dog can lift or flip it out, and it is not a chew toy.
- The post strength check assumes a 20 N sideways push at the post tip, about 2 kg. A dog standing or biting on a post can exceed that.
- This model describes only the geometry. It makes no claim about how much it slows eating or about any health effect.
- Fit depends on your measurements. The rim is modelled 1 mm inside the bowl wall, and the foot clears the floor-to-wall radius you enter. Fit and strength were checked in the Loftsmith engine only, not printed or tested.
