Cat-resistant toilet paper hood with print-in-place lid
Keeps a curious cat from unspooling the toilet paper. The hood wraps over the roll with round side plates, and the lid is printed already hinged, so there's nothing to assemble. Change the roll size and the gap between the arms to fit your holder.

How to print it
Parts
- frame · PLA · Upside down on its flat top (rotated 180 degrees about X); prints together with the lid as one object
Back plate, two cheeks with engraved paws, hinge knuckles and pin, and two hidden keyholes. About 45 g at 2 walls and 15% infill. PLA is stiff and easy to print, and it sees no heat or flex here.
- lid · PLA · Upside down on its flat top, already on the frame's hinge pin (print-in-place)
Top and curved front with a rolled finger lip. About 54 g at 2 walls and 15% infill; about 49 g of that rests on a full roll. Its weight is what holds it down on the roll.

- Notes
- Print the frame and lid as one object, upside down on the flat top, so the hinge forms around its pin. At default sizes that's about 102 g and 2 h 36 min at 2 walls and 15% infill (3 walls: about 129 g, 3 h 16 min; heavier walls also make the lid press harder on the roll). The hinge has a 0.35 mm ga
Hardware
- 2 × Wood screw, M4 or #8, pan or round head (head 8.6 mm across or less, 3 mm tall or less) · Leave each head standing about 2.5 mm off the wall. At the default sizes they go 96 mm apart, 8 mm below where you want the hood's top edge. The spacing is 0.8 x (roll width + 10 mm) at the default ar
- 2 × Wall plug to suit the screws · For plasterboard or tile. Skip them if you're screwing into wood.
Assembly
- Print the hood as one piece. Once it's cool, work the lid open and closed a few times so the hinge moves freely.
- Hold the hood over the roll where it should sit and mark the top edge. Put the two screws 8 mm below that line, centred over the roll, 96 mm apart at the default sizes. Plug the holes and drive the screws, leaving each head about 2.5 mm off the wall.
- Line the keyholes on the back over the screw heads, push the hood flat to the wall and slide it down 7 mm until it sits.
- To change the roll, lift the lid by its front lip. It opens to 85 degrees, just short of vertical, and falls shut when you let go, so hold it up with one hand. With the other hand, unclip the spindle on a two-arm holder and drop the roll straight down out of the hood, or slide the roll off the open
- Thread the paper tail down the front, under the lid lip, then lower the lid onto the roll.
Good to know
- It deters cats; it doesn't lock. The lid only rests on the roll under its own weight: the printed lid weighs about 54 g at 2 walls and 15% infill, and about 49 g of that presses on a full roll (about 45 g on an empty core). A determined cat can still push it up with a paw, and the paper tail hangs b
- The grey holder in the picture is an assumed typical one: a 26 mm spindle, 14 mm arms and 48 mm round wall plates. Measure your own, and raise 'Hood bottom above spindle centre' if your arms or wall plates sit higher.
- Recessed (in-wall) holders aren't modelled. Use this for two-arm or single-post holders on a flat wall.
- The single-post option leaves the right side open so the roll can slide off. If your post is on the right, mirror the model in your slicer.
- The print-in-place hinge relies on a 0.35 mm gap. Over-extrusion or elephant's foot can fuse it, so print a small test if your printer runs tight.
- At the default sizes it fits a 180 mm bed. At the largest spindle-to-wall setting (110 mm) the print is 180.5 mm deep and needs a bigger bed.
- It's a large print for a household part: about 102 g and 2.5 hours at the defaults.
- PLA softens at about 55 C. Keep it away from heaters, or print it in PETG.
- The keyholes and cheeks were checked against a 2 kg press on the front. Don't lean on it, and don't hang anything from it.
