Stackable bauble storage trays for 40-110 mm ornaments
Puts your Christmas baubles to bed without the tissue paper and the crushed box. Each ball sits in its own round cup, and the trays stack on tall corner posts, so the caps and loops stay clear above. Set the ball size, rows and number of trays.

How to print it
Parts
- tray ×2 · PLA · Flat on the bed as modelled, cradles and posts pointing up
One tray per plate: 160 x 160 x 98 mm at the defaults. The two-tray stack is 158 g and 3 h 53 min at 2 walls / 15% infill, so about 79 g and just under 2 h per tray. Holds four 70 mm baubles. PLA because the trays only need to be stiff for indoor storage and see no heat or flexing.

- Notes
- At 2 walls / 15% the default two-tray stack is about 158 g and 3 h 53 min, so about 79 g and just under 2 h per tray. At 3 walls / 15% it is about 211 g and 5 h 11 min, which gives stiffer posts. Each default tray fits a 180 mm bed. The bed check shows that 3 cups in a row fit a 256 mm bed for baubl
Assembly
- Measure one bauble across its widest point and set Bauble diameter to that number. The size printed on the box is often not the measured diameter.
- Measure from the top of the ball to the top of the hanging loop and set 'Cap and loop above the ball'.
- Print one tray per bauble layer you need.
- Put the bottom tray in the box and set a bauble in each cup, cap up.
- Lower the next tray straight down so the peg on each corner post goes into the socket under its corners, then fill it.
- To unpack, lift the trays off from the top. The lower baubles come out once the tray above is off.
Good to know
- Not crush-proof. The posts were checked in the engine against 5 kg resting on top of the stack. Don't stack heavy boxes on the trays or let a box lid press on them.
- Fit and retention are geometry checks in the Loftsmith engine, not results from a real print. Print one tray and try your own baubles before printing a full set.
- Cradles are sized for round baubles. Teardrop, finial or very flat ornaments may not sit well.
- Narrow stacks of 3 trays (1 cup across or down) should stay inside a box rather than stand free. The tipping check flags combinations that are too tall and narrow.
- Three cups in a row fit a 256 mm bed only for baubles up to 75 mm. For larger baubles the tray uses 2 cups in that direction, and its bed check says so.
