Loftsmith Rails HO GP40 (flared radiator)
A little diesel for your HO layout, ready to roll down the track and sit at the head of a freight train. It has a long hood, a flared radiator at the back and a numbered cab. Change the frame length and the road number to match the engine you want.

- Notes
- Slot 1 orange (body), slot 2 white (lettering and logo), slot 3 charcoal (roof). Expect a prime tower. The report estimates about 150 colour changes and a lot of purge (~80 g). One colour plus hand paint is the cheap option. The handrails are 1.4 mm thin; handle them gently.
Hardware
- 4 × 33 in HO metal wheelsets (25.3 mm axles) · Optional for a display model.
- 2 × M2 x 10 screws · Truck pivots, if you want the trucks to swivel.
- CA glue or plastic cement · For the fuel tank pegs.
Assembly
- Glue the fuel tank pegs into the two sockets under the frame, between the trucks.
- Press a wheelset into each truck's axle cones, then screw each truck to the frame with a loose M2 screw (optional on a display piece).
Good to know
- This is a display shell, not a runner: no motor, lights or couplers.
- The report flags thin ledges on the body. They are the cab-window recesses and door grooves, kept on purpose.
- The report warns about slender members; those are the thin handrail posts. They are fragile but fine for display.
- Nothing is test-printed. Check the fuel tank peg fit first.
