Laptop panel monitor frame, 15.6 in, split for 256 mm bed
Gives a bare 15.6 in laptop screen a frame and a place to stand, so a spare panel can become a small desk monitor. It leans back on its own, and there's a bay for the controller board. It prints in six pieces to fit a 256 mm bed.
6 parts · 230 g · 368 × 121 × 224 mm
Ask for the sizes you want to tweak, e.g. “make the width adjustable”.
How to print it
Parts
- bezel-right · PETG · Front face down on a textured plate
183.8 x 233.3 x 8.2 mm, about 31 g, 44 min. Holds 7 M3 inserts and one half of each filament-pin hole.
- bezel-left · PETG · Front face down on a textured plate
Mirror of the right half, about 31 g, 44 min. Glued to the right half with two 1.75 mm filament pins.
- back-center · PETG · Inner (panel-side) face down; hinge lugs and VESA bosses point up
129.7 x 233.2 x 17 mm, about 76 g, 102 min. Spans the bezel seam; carries the VESA 75/100 bosses, hinge lugs and hex vents.
- back-left · PETG · Flat, inner face down
Plain rail section, about 20 g, 30 min.
- back-right · PETG · Inner face down; standoffs point up
About 42 g, 58 min. Board bay with four M3 insert standoffs, the eDP ribbon slot and vent slots.
- foot · PETG · Inner face down, hinge barrel up
54 mm wide easel foot, about 30 g, 43 min. Its heel stops on the spine at 31.5 degrees of opening (default 18 degree lean).

- Notes
- All six pieces fit a 256 mm bed; no piece fits a 180 mm bed at the default 15.6 in size. At 2 walls/15% the set is about 239 g of PETG and 5 h 33 min; at 3 walls/15%, which gives the heat-set inserts more material to grip, it is about 328 g and 7 h 38 min. Hardware
- 18 × M3 heat-set insert (4.1 mm hole, 5.7 mm long) · 14 in the bezel rim, 4 in the board standoffs
- 14 × M3 x 8 countersunk screw · Back frame pieces into the bezel inserts
- 4 × M3 x 6 screw · Controller board onto the standoffs
- 8 × M4 heat-set insert (5.6 mm hole, 8.1 mm long) · VESA 75 and 100 patterns; skip when the VESA toggle is off
- 4 mm steel rod or pin, cut to 69 mm · Foot hinge pin, pushed in from the left side
- 2 × 1.75 mm filament, short pieces · Alignment pins in the bezel seam, glued
- 3 mm double-sided foam tape · About 1.2 m, on the back rails where they overlap the panel border
- eDP controller board for your panel, 12 V power adapter and HDMI cable · Not printed; buy one that matches your panel's part number
- Glue (CA or epoxy) · For the bezel seam
Assembly
- Press the inserts in with a soldering iron: 14 M3 inserts into the bezel rim, 4 M3 inserts into the board standoffs on back-right, and 8 M4 inserts into the VESA bosses on back-center.
- Glue the two bezel halves together on a flat surface with a short piece of 1.75 mm filament in each of the two seam holes. Let the glue cure.
- Lay the bezel face down on a soft cloth and drop the panel in face down. It sits on the lip with 0.5 mm clearance all round.
- Stick 3 mm foam tape on the inner face of the back rails where they will cover the panel border.
- Plug the eDP cable into the panel and lead it across the back of the panel to the ribbon slot in back-right.
- Fit back-left, back-center (across the bezel seam) and back-right, then drive the 14 M3 x 8 countersunk screws into the bezel inserts. Stop when snug so the panel glass is not stressed.
- Set the foot between the two hinge lugs and push the 4 mm pin in from the left through both lugs and the barrel. The barrel holds the pin snugly.
- Screw the controller board onto the standoffs with four M3 x 6 screws, pull the eDP cable through the slot and plug it in, then connect HDMI and the 12 V lead. Both leads run down the back and away behind the monitor.
- Stand it up: the foot swings out until its heel rests on the spine, giving the set lean angle. Fold the foot with the monitor lifted or laid face down; the foot folds flat under a VESA arm plate.
Good to know
- The active area's vertical position defaults to centred (11.33 mm top and bottom) because the datasheet sizes alone do not give it. Measure your panel's top and bottom borders and set them before printing, or the window may cover pixels.
- Board mounting holes are assumed to sit 3.5 mm in from each corner of the board. The board size is a slider but that inset is not, so check your board.
- The stability and foot figures use an estimated panel mass (about 0.35 kg at 15.6 in) and a 50 g board. They are not measured.
- The panel is held by the bezel lip and 3 mm foam behind it. That retention and the glued bezel seam were not load-tested. Laptop panels crack easily, so do not overtighten the back screws.
- The VESA inserts are meant for this monitor's own weight on a light arm. Their pull-out strength was not checked.
- Needs a 256 mm bed (A1, P1S, X1 class). The pieces do not fit a 180 mm bed at the default size.
- Keep mains power outside the frame: power the board from an external 12 V adapter.
