Desk price sign for MAX7219 7-segment modules, 1-4 rows

A little fuel-price board for your desk, with REG, MID, PRE and DSL tags and a dark red window for each row of digits. It leans back on its own, so the numbers face you. Pick one to four rows and set the board size to match your MAX7219 modules.

Parts

  • housing · PLA (dark grey) · Face down on the bed; the foot rises behind at the tilt angle. No supports.

139 x 124.5 x 41.7 mm as printed, about 71 g and 99 min at 2 walls/15%. Indoor desk use, so PLA is fine; it softens near 55 °C, so keep it out of hot cars and direct sun.

  • label-inlay · PLA (amber), AMS slot 2 · Printed with the housing in its first 0.6 mm (face down).

Amber label plates and the chin title, about 1 g. Without an AMS, switch the Two-colour labels toggle off and the text is engraved 1.2 mm instead.

  • window ×4 · Translucent red or smoke PLA/PETG, or ti · Flat

60.5 x 15.3 x 1.5 mm each, about 2 g and 6 min. You can cut the same size from 1.5 mm tinted acrylic instead.

  • back-cover · PLA (dark grey) · Outer face down; the stop bars and locating lip face up. No supports.

    139 x 115.8 x 6 mm, about 39 g and 55 min.

Notes
At the defaults all parts together are about 123 g and 3 h 10 min at 2 walls/15% (build report estimate, including about 1.6 g of purge for the colour changes). The housing and cover each fit a 180 mm bed. With 0.56 in modules and 4 rows the housing grows to about 179 mm tall and needs a 256 mm bed.

Hardware

  • 4 × M3 heat-set insert (4.1 mm hole, 5.7 mm long) · Pressed into the four corner bosses of the housing.
  • 4 × M3 x 10 button or pan head screw · Holds the back cover.
  • 4 × MAX7219 8-digit 0.36 in 7-segment module (or TM1637 4-digit 0.36 in / 0.56 in) · One per row. PCB up to 85 x 15 mm; set the Module depth slider to your module's measured depth.
  • ESP32 dev board (about 55 x 28 mm by default) · Header pins toward the face, up to 8.4 mm long. Board width and length are sliders.
  • USB cable with plug body up to 12 x 7 mm · Plugs in through the side notch.
  • Dupont jumper wires · One set per module, run down the open label side to the board.

Assembly

  1. Press the four M3 heat-set inserts into the corner bosses of the housing.
  2. With the housing face down, drop a window plate (printed or 1.5 mm acrylic) into each row's pocket behind the opening.
  3. Slide each module in from the back, digits first, until its display body sits between the end blocks against the window.
  4. Wire each module and run the leads down the open label side into the chin.
  5. Lay the ESP32 board on its two end ledges, pins toward the face, with the USB end at the side notch.
  6. Fit the back cover so the locating lip drops inside the rim, then drive the four M3 x 10 screws into the inserts.
  7. Plug the USB cable in through the side notch and stand the sign on its foot.

Good to know

  • The module, display and digit sizes are from seller listings and are not measured. Clones vary, so measure your module's depth from the digit face to the back of its pins and set the Module depth slider to match. If the digits are not centred on the PCB, use the Digits offset slider.
  • Modules are held in place, not screwed down: each sits between its window and a stop bar on the cover with 0.6 mm of play. TM1637 mounting holes are not used.
  • The board bay assumes header pins up to 8.4 mm pointing toward the face and an ESP32 module under 3.5 mm tall on the back. The USB notch passes plug bodies up to 12 x 7 mm.
  • The tipping figures assume solid PLA, 12 g per MAX7219 module and a 10 g board. A heavy, stiff USB cable can still pull the sign over.
  • Window thickness starts at 1.5 mm. If you use 1 mm acrylic, the module gets 0.5 mm of extra play unless you add a shim.
  • This is an indoor desk part in PLA. It has been checked in the engine only, not printed.
