Print-in-place toolbox
A little red toolbox for the screwdrivers and bits that end up loose in a drawer. The lid is joined to the base by a hinge, and the sides have fine vertical ribs that give your fingers something to hold. Change the length, width or depth to suit what you carry.

How to print it
Parts
- box · PLA · Upright, floor on the bed (prints together with lid and handle as one object)
Hinge brackets and the latch lever are part of the box.
- lid · PLA · Upside-down behind the box, top on the bed
Swings 180 degrees on the cone-pin hinge to close.
- handle · PLA · Folded flat in the lid's top groove
Chamfered bed edges and 45 degree pivot feet; lift it 90 degrees to carry.
Print settings
- Layer height
- 0.2 mm
- Walls
- 3
- Infill
- 15%
- Supports
- Off: none needed, and none should get trapped in the hinge or handle gaps
- Notes
- Export all three parts as the single print group. Use a calibrated PLA profile with elephant's foot compensation on, and keep any brim away from the hinge.
Assembly
- Let the print cool, then gently rock the lid back and forth to free the hinge knuckles.
- Lift the handle out of its groove and fold it back a few times to free the pivots.
- Swing the lid over and press the front until the latch lever clicks over the catch. To open, push the lever's finger tab sideways.
Good to know
- The gaps were only checked on screen, and the motion check sampled only part of the swing. If anything prints fused, raise the Moving gap slider to 0.4-0.45 mm.
- The grip is sized for a typical bare hand (30 mm thick). Thick work gloves may feel snug.
