Tilted desk case for 1.28 in GC9A01 round displays
Stands a small round display up on your desk so you can read it without craning over. The screen sits in a round window in a tilted face, and there's a little slot in the side for the wiring. Change the board size and tilt to match your display.

How to print it
Parts
- shell · PLA · Face down on the bed (printRotate applied by the export); the bezel, chin and heels rise straight up
About 15 g and 26 min at 2 walls / 15% infill. Holds the display in the bezel pocket and the controller in the channel under it; the USB-C opening is in the side of the chin.
- back · PETG · Outer face down; the latch arms and the three board fingers point straight up
About 4 g and 11 min at 2 walls / 15% infill. Print it in PETG: the two latch arms flex 1.55 mm when it snaps on (2.07% strain, inside PETG's range; too close to PLA's limit).
Print settings
- Layer height
- 0.2 mm
- Walls
- 2 walls (the page figure); 3 walls makes the shell a little heavier and steadier: about 25 g and 48 min for both parts
- Infill
- 15%
- Supports
- None
- Notes
- Both parts at 2 walls / 15%: about 20 g and 38 min in total. Shell in PLA, back in PETG because its latch arms flex.
Hardware
- Round GC9A01 display board (default 1.28 in module, 40.4 x 37.5 mm, 32.4 mm screen) · Measure your board's width, height, thickness including parts on its back, and screen diameter, then set the sliders.
- ESP32-C3 Super Mini (22.5 x 18 mm) or a similar board with USB-C at the middle of a short edge · Set the controller length and width sliders for other boards; parts on top up to about 3.3 mm tall.
- USB-C lead · Plug overmold up to 12.4 x 6.6 mm.
- 7 × Hookup wire between display and controller · Soldered before assembly; about 10 cm each is plenty.
Assembly
- Solder your wires between the display and the controller first, leaving enough length to fold into the space behind the display.
- Drop the display into the shell from the back, screen first, so it rests on the lip around the window.
- Slide the controller into the channel under the display, parts side up and USB-C toward the side opening. Push its far end under the small rail until it touches the front wall.
- Fold the wires into the space behind the display.
- Press the back on with the channel bulge at the bottom until both hooks click into the side windows. Its three fingers now hold the display 0.2 mm from moving, and a small tab holds the USB socket down.
- Plug the USB-C lead in from the side and run it back along the desk.
- To open: push both hooks in through the side windows with a pen tip and pull the back off.
Good to know
- Checked in the Loftsmith engine, not printed: print the shell first and test-fit your board. If it is tight or loose, change the pocket clearance slider (0.15 to 0.6 mm per side).
- The pocket is modelled as a circle trimmed to your width and height (a round board with two flat edges), with the screen centred on the board. Boards with a tab or an off-centre screen need their own outline.
- The default 6 mm board thickness is an estimate, not a measured value. Measure your board including the connector or header on its back, or the back fingers will either press too hard or leave play.
- The back's three fingers press a 1.8 mm band at the board edge at the upper left, upper right and bottom centre. Move or trim parts on your board that sit there.
- The controller's far end slides under a 0.6 mm rail, so it needs bare board at that edge. Taller headers or pins soldered underneath will not fit the channel.
- The case is light, about 16 g estimated at the default sizes. It takes about 0.55 N of sideways pull at the plug to tip it, so a stiff or heavy USB lead can still drag it. A small rubber pad or putty under the chin helps, especially at the smallest size settings.
- PLA softens around 55 °C: keep it out of direct sun and away from heaters.
