Bistable Christmas fidget clicker ornament, 1-5 snap keys
Something for restless fingers that also hangs on the tree. Each key sits in its own slot, and a gentle press snaps it from one end to the other with a click. A little hole at the corner takes a ribbon. Pick how many keys you want and how big they are.
1 part · 19 g · 84 × 98 × 12 mm
Ask for the sizes you want to tweak, e.g. “make the width adjustable”.
How to print it
Parts
- clicker · PETG (filament 1, pine green) · Flat as modelled, frame and beams on the bed
Frame, 12 beams and 3 keys print as one body, 83.7 x 98.3 x 11.8 mm. PETG because the beams flex on every click and PETG tolerates about 3 % repeated strain, against about 2 % for PLA.
- motif-1 · PETG (filament 2, gold) · Printed in place on top of key 1 (star)
Raised 0.8 mm; the top layers of the clicker object on filament 2.
- motif-2 · PETG (filament 2, gold) · Printed in place on top of key 2 (gift: box with ribbon cross and bow)
Raised 0.8 mm; the top layers of the clicker object on filament 2.
- motif-3 · PETG (filament 2, gold) · Printed in place on top of key 3 (snowflake)
Raised 0.8 mm; the top layers of the clicker object on filament 2.
Print settings
- Layer height
- 0.2 mm
- Walls
- 2
- Infill
- 15 %
- Supports
- None
- Notes
- About 23 g and 36 min at 2 walls and 15 % infill, including about 2.7 g of purge for the one colour change (engine estimate; your slicer decides). The gold faces start at 11.0 mm: use a second AMS slot, or a pause/filament change at that layer on a single-nozzle printer, or print in one colour. Keep
Hardware
- Ribbon, cord or split ring · Optional, through the 5.6 mm hang-loop hole to hang it as an ornament.
Assembly
- No assembly: it comes off the bed as one piece. Lift it by the outer frame, not by the keys, so the thin beams are not bent while the part is still stuck down.
- Check that the 0.6 mm gap behind each key is open. If the first layer fused it, free it with a fingernail or a thin blade.
- To click, push a key away from the hang loop until it snaps over and lands on the front wall of its window (4.85 mm of travel at the defaults). Push it back toward the loop and it snaps home.
- Optional: thread a ribbon or split ring through the hang loop.
Good to know
- The snap forces (about 6.2 N over, 1.1 N back at the defaults) and the strain figures come from a simple beam model in the script. They are not measurements. Real click feel and cycle life depend on your printer, filament and slicer, and neither has been tested on a print.
- The second position is held by only about 1 N, so a knock can flip a key back. It is a fidget, not a latch.
- PETG is the recommended filament. PLA is sized to a 2 % strain limit with longer beams (33.5 mm instead of 27.0 mm with 18 mm keys, so the frame grows from 83.7 to 96.7 mm wide), but it is more brittle and will likely wear out sooner. TPU is not supported.
- The 0.85 mm beams can snap if the clicker is bent, dropped hard or chewed. Thin broken pieces are a choking risk, so keep it away from small children and pets.
- The default is 83.7 x 98.3 mm and fits a 180 mm bed. The largest setting, 5 keys of 25 mm at medium click, comes out at 96.3 x 187.4 mm in PETG and 108.4 x 187.5 mm in PLA, so it needs a 256 mm bed.
