Fillable twist-open advent bauble, 66 mm, numbered 1-24
A tree bauble with a little hiding place inside, so each day of the countdown has a treat waiting. The ribbed gold cap twists off the red base, and a small loop at the top lets it hang from a branch. Change the treat size and the day number to suit your own.

Ask for the sizes you want to tweak, e.g. “make the width adjustable”.
How to print it
Parts
- top-half · PLA (brass or gold) · Open side down: flat seam ring on the bed, loop on top (as modelled)
Cap with 14 fluted grooves, crimped crown, hanging loop and the three lugs inside. 64.9 x 64.9 x 40.8 mm, about 12 g and 24 min at 2 walls / 15% infill. Supports off.
- bottom-half · PLA (deep red) · Open side down: flip it so the rounded neck end is on the bed and the finial points up
Smooth bowl with the raised day number, a small finial and the grooved neck. The shoulder rises from the neck at 45°. 66.0 x 66.0 x 54.4 mm, about 20 g and 35 min at 2 walls / 15% infill. Use a brim: 273 mm² touches the bed.

- Off is the recommended setting. Top half: the engine flags 1773 mm², which is the hidden inside ceiling of the dome. Bottom half, printed neck-down: the engine flags 1834 mm², with a support estimate of up to about 12 g. About 1769 mm² of that is the dome ceiling inside the bowl (calculated in the s
- Notes
- PLA. One bauble (both halves) is about 33 g and 1 h 2 min at 2 walls / 15%, or about 40 g and 1 h 13 min at 3 walls / 15%. A set of 24 at the default settings is about 790 g of filament. Use a brim on the bottom half. Both halves fit side by side on a 180 mm bed. For each day, set the Day number sli
Hardware
- Ribbon, string or ornament hook · Threads through the 4.4 mm hole in the loop. Not printed.
Assembly
- Print both halves open side down with supports off: the gold half on its seam ring, the red half flipped onto its rounded neck end with a brim. The inside dome ceilings may come out rough; nobody sees them.
- Put one wrapped treat in the red bowl.
- Line up the small dot on the gold rim with the dot just below the red seam, then push the halves together. The three lugs drop into the slots on the neck.
- Hold the loop and turn the red half a quarter turn, clockwise as you look up at the finial, until it stops. The day number now sits right under the gold dot.
- Thread a ribbon or hook through the loop and hang it.
- To open, turn the red half back a quarter turn until the dots line up, then pull it straight down.
Good to know
- Not food-safe. Use wrapped treats or folded notes only.
- The Minimum diameter slider sets the smallest size. If the treat needs more room the bauble grows to fit, so lower slider settings may not change it. The 'Bauble size and bed fit' check on the Check tab shows the diameter actually used.
- There is no click detent. Lugs that engage 1.75 mm hold the bottom half, but only friction stops it turning, so a firm twist (or a curious child) will open it.
- The fit numbers come from the engine. Print one bauble first and use the Twist-lock clearance slider (0.15 to 0.4 mm) if the turn is too tight or too loose on your printer.
- The neck is the red half's first layer. Its rounded end keeps up to 0.25 mm of first-layer squish clear of the sliding face, but trim any brim cleanly from the neck before assembling.
- The treat check assumes a block shape lying flat. Measure the treat wrapped, at its widest points.
- The loads were sized for a filled bauble hung suddenly plus a 20 N tug. It is not meant to carry anything heavier than one treat.
- PLA softens around 55 °C, so keep it away from hot bulbs and heaters.
